"Departures" with Ross Whitaker
For most workers of the world, the daily commute is sumply something to edure before the real day begins. Not so for Ross Whitaker. With an artist's eye, for the past eight years he has toted a Hasselblad panaramic camera and observed, studied and recorded the 43-mile commute from Red Bank, New Jersey to midtown Manhattan. The whole gamut of life in the short commute from Red Bank, from the "industry and grandeur of the Meadowlands," to the neat suburbia of Monmouth and Middlesex Counties, across the heavy industry of Elizabeth, and through the tunnel that leads to the towering wonders of Manhattan is represented by 36 dramatic, large-scale 40 by 17-inch photographs.
