Description
Learn to capture a scene and process it so that it more closely resembles how your eye would interpret the scene. That means capturing full detail in the shadows and highlights in the image instead of allowing them to become under or over exposed. You can even transform your images into something that more resembles a drawing than a photograph since the image will contain an amazing amount of detail in the deepest shadows. This three-day workshop will cover:
1) Shooting for HDR: Learn how to choose appropriate subject matter, setup your camera for idea operation and capture the full brightness range of a high contrast scene (this includes how to shoot in the midday sun while capturing full shadow detail). Tripod, monopod and hand held techniques will be discussed. We will be shooting during class, so be sure to bring your camera.
2) Merging Exposures: You'll see what it takes to combine multiple exposures into a single HDR file. This includes batch processing and the secrets to merging images that were shot hand-held.
3) Processing HDR Files: Much like RAW files, HDR files need to be processed in order to turn them into a usable image. You'll learn all the tricks needed to produce exceptional results including many "secrets" that you will not find in any books or web sites.
4) Finishing Techniques: Learn how to direct the viewer's eye through the scene and eliminate distractions as well as create a unique mood to your images using specialized techniques in Photoshop.
Requirements: A digital SLR camera capable of shooting in RAW format and has manual controls (aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc.). You must also bring a sturdy tripod and cable release. Note: This workshop will utilize both Photoshop CS3 (not elements) and a $69 plug-in called Photomatix (a 15% discount code will be provided on Photomatix during class).
