We all want our travel photographs to convey the emotional experience of being there, - to capture a sense of place, honor the unique qualities of the people and culture, and to tell a story. Join Brenda Tharp on a journey into the world of travel photography, and learn how to make travel pictures with greater impact. Through visual presentations, assignments, field trips, and review sessions, Brenda will teach you how to express a sense of place through your photographs, and how to make creative photographs under any circumstances when you are traveling. Topics include working with light, blending natural and artificial light, creating visual depth, making creative compositions, photographing strangers, capturing candid moments, and using flash effectively. Brenda will also discuss the logistics of being a digital travel photographer, including storage solutions, security, traveling with gear, and more topics as requested by the group.

BRENDA THARP's travels have taken her to Egypt, Europe, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, and British Columbia, along with journeys to all parts of the USA, for assignment, stock and fine art photography. She has in-depth experience at photographing under unusual lighting conditions, weather, and travel constraints. She’s been featured on Canon’s Photo Safaris TV program, and has been published in a variety of travel-related magazines, including Northwest Traveler, Travel Holiday and Sunset National Geographic Books, Michelin’s Guide Books to Mexico and San Francisco, and has written for several publications on the topics of travel and outdoor photography. Her book, Creative Nature and Outdoor Photography, covers a broad spectrum of photography tips and techniques that work for both nature and travel.
