Description

Join David Muench on this journey through a timeless land. Cuzco, the archaeological capital of South America, is backed by lofty mountains and surrounded by cultivated fields. Over 500 temples, Inca palaces, dwellings, terraces, other significant remains, colonial churches, convents, monasteries and mansions, as well as the famous ruins of Machu Picchu, are in the region. We will begin and end our adventure in the city of Cuzco (considered by the Incas to be the center of the world), which we will photograph by day and night. Leaving Cuzco, we will travel through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a winding river valley surrounded by the snow capped peaks of the Andes. The area contains the glorious remains of ancient civilizations, such as Pisac and Chinceros, which host colorful local markets, and we will have the opportunity to photograph the traditional mountain village of Willoq, and Ollantaytambo, the oldest continually occupied settlement in the Americas. David also leads us to the amazing site of Machu Picchu – the most dramatic and enchanting site of all the Inca sites in South America. We will spend three nights in Tambopata, where we will experience the Rainforest, and get pictures of toucans, parrots and macaws. On the field and through evening critiques, David Muench will help you create great beautiful, meaningful images. Peruvian native, photographer, and PBPC executive director, Fatima NeJame will also be on hand to answer your questions and guide you through the “Land of the Incas”.

Biography

DAVID MUENCH has photographed the natural landscape for half a century. Since childhood travels with his father, photographer Josef Muench, he has continued to explore the earth through his camera lens. An innovator in landscape photography, he believes Nature is his greatest teacher. (More formal education includes the Rochester Institute of Technology and the Art Center School of Design.) Considering his work to be a celebration of the earth and the mystical forces of nature that help shape our destinies, he wants his photographs to increase people’s awareness of the necessity to preserve what is wild in its natural state.
