Description
Today’s digital cameras offer the convenience of automatic everything, making it easy for the casual snapshooter to take good pictures. But by moving out of automatic mode, you can enjoy more creative control of your photography. This three-day workshop shows you how to take advantage of advanced camera options that enable you to manipulate focus, exposure, and color to suit your personal vision. We begin with a review of how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO affect focus and exposure. Then you’ll learn why, when, and how to use such features as aperture-priority autoexposure, shutter-priority autoexposure, manual exposure, exposure metering modes, and focus modes. Among other techniques, you’ll find out how to alter depth of field, “stop” action, get better results with a built-in flash, and use your camera’s white balance control to mimic the look of warming and cooling filters. You’ll also learn the pros and cons of shooting in the Camera Raw and TIFF file formats and get advice about resolution, file storage, and lens and lighting accessories. You do not need a digital SLR to get the most from this workshop, but your camera should offer some manual or semi-automatic exposure and focus options.
