Description

One of the most basic requirements in photography, whether photographing a landscape or a portrait, is to obtain an appropriate exposure for that subject. This seminar evaluates the usefulness of all the commonly used methods to obtain an appropriate exposure when working with either artificial or natural light. This includes all forms of in camera metering from spot to matrix as well as the advantages of programmed and automatic metering modes versus manual metering. All forms of hand-held metering techniques for available and strobe light are also covered as well as how to deal with unusual lighting conditions as in night photography, sunrise/sunset, dusk and dawn.
Specialized approaches to exposure such as the use of RAW file corrections and the emerging role of high dynamic range (HDR) photography are also explored along with a consideration of the relationship between white balance and exposure. The over all goal is to show how an exposure strategy can be developed to deal with virtually any type of lighting using either film or digital cameras.
