Description

Most photographers think filtration is limited to the use of a handful of camera filters or a few software tools. But filtration is actually a fundamental process that plays a critical role in giving digital photography much of its power to control, correct and create different “looks”. This ranges from the basics of color control/correction to converting color to black and white as well as filtering for a mood, using unsharp filtration, filtering out noise, etc., etc. Even the recording of an image on the sensor is dependent on filtration. The purpose of this seminar is to build a general understanding of filtration as a system and how to best apply its various aspects to an image using very simple to understand principles, specialized software and specific camera filters.

The over all goal is to learn how to use the various filtration processes as efficiently as possible to obtain the highest possible image quality. Some of the topics covered include: What are some of the most effective software filter programs? What are the advantages of using camera filters vs. software filters? How does one produce the illusion of mood in an image? Is White Balance all that important or can I just fix it in Photoshop? What is this thing called non-destructive filtering? Is there a way of avoiding noise when I take the picture or do I have to rely on noise filtering programs? The seminar is illustrated with over 200 images, many of which are from the three books the instructor has published on filtration techniques.
