Description
Join the co-author of The Creative Digital Darkroom, Photoshop Artistry and Real World Digital Photography for an inspiring week that combines presentation, artistic discovery, making photographs and exploring the creative possibilities for image transformation in the digital darkroom. This workshop covers creative enhancements for both the straight photographic image, as well as using the initial photograph as a point of departure for visual transformations that lead to evocative, personal images that are interpretive rather than literal. In our photographic explorations, both with our cameras and with Photoshop, we will search for the extraordinary in the ordinary. In the digital lab, Sean will share his Photoshop techniques for creative transformations that include getting the most from raw files, color and tonal manipulations, black and white conversions, toning, color tinting, blending modes, masking techniques, the many uses of the blur filters, adding atmospheric effects, using texture and digital “lighting” to add personal significance, object removal, multiple image composites and preparing for printmaking. There will also be field sessions during the week to nearby locations to explore creative photography and essential camera techniques such as mastering the camera’s light meter, exposing two or more shots to extend dynamic range, and other methods for technical and creative control in the camera.
