In this digital age, photographic capture has become much easier but seeing remains a challenge for the serious photographer. Edward Weston in his diaries wrote that Composition is the strongest way of seeing. The morning session will consist of a presentation of some helpful compositional guidelines such as The Rule of Thirds, Geometrics (lead lines, S-curves triangles, diagonals, symmetry…), Figure-Ground (Every photograph has a background), Perspective and Depth, Framing a Scene, Clarity in a Photograph, Movement, Vantage Point, Portraiture, Color, and Captioning a Photograph (The caption becomes part of the photograph). For the afternoon there will be shooting assignments based on some of the material covered in the morning. This will then be followed by a group critique of the assignments. Bring you cameras and any photographs you would like to show.
