Introduction to Photographic Editing

This insightful class will teach everyone how to manage their photographs once the photographic process is done. We will cover the taking of your media cards out of the camera to plugging them into your computer and downloading the information.  Followed by saving and labeling your photographs in an organized fashion.  All steps will be covered  that are necessary to make a library where you can recall your images to use and see time and time again.

The important step of creating a library of your images starts with purchasing an external hard drive, which is essential for keeping your computer in good working order when adding the large amount of files you will be making to hold your images. Setting up your filing system is absolutely essential to a good work flow and recalling photographs taken in the past. All students are asked to have a portable, external Hard Drive with cables and a few images to work on the day of the class.

Once the class understands their filing system, we will follow up with what programs to use to turn your RAW files into usable TIFF files and JPEG files to send emails from, and edit further to create the perfect print. The class will get an introduction to Adobe’s Lightroom & Photoshop where everyone will learn how to use the tools necessary to edit an image to perfection. Basic tips on how to adjust your image Brightness, Contrast, Cropping, Color Temp. and sharpness will all be covered along with how to create gradients to help emphasize certain parts of a photograph. The main 2 screens of Lightroom (Library & Develop) will get covered to the point of exporting your finished photographs to the desired saved location.

Lastly, we will get into the Photoshop portion of the class which will introduce the program and its different menu system along with coverage of basic tools that will serve you best when editing in this program. Each program has its strengths and the class will learn what edits to apply from each program and why they accel in these portions of the edit. Photoshop will supplement your editing skill with how to Spot Photographs with the Clone tool, use of History Brush, Applying Text, and working in local areas of an image by using the marquee tool to work within the lines to create the perfect Photograph.
