Biography

This class is taught by the Palm Beach Photographic Centre staff unless otherwise noted.

LAURENCE GARTEL is considered the "Father" of the Digital Art medium for over 34-years. He has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, Long Beach Museum of Art, Princeton Art Museum, Norton Museum of Art, and in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of American History, Bibliothque Nationale, and most recently the Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum in London. Gartel is also the subject of two monographs: Laurence M. Gartel: A Cybernetic Romance" Introduction written by Nam June Paik, and "GARTEL: Arte e Tecnologia". Dozens of publications include Mr. Gartel as a major figure of the "Art of the Digital Age" shifting the course of discipline.

GARTEL was one of the few artists that gave input to the first version of the software. He was a spokesperson for Adobe when they introduced version 3.0 with layers so many years ago. GARTEL taught Andy Warhol how to use the Amiga Computer as he needed assistance creating Debbie Harry (Blondie's) album cover. Other celebrities such as Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, have collaborated with GARTEL. Join him at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre for a dynamic learning experience.
