Albert Watson is one of the world’s most successful and prolific photographers, blending art, fashion and commercial photography into stunning images. Named one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time by Photo District News, his many honors include an Order of the British Empire (OBE) from Queen Elizabeth II, and the Royal Photographic Society’s Centenary Medal for lifetime achievements. Watson’s iconic images and celebrity portraits have been in countless international publications, including 100 Vogue covers, in galleries and museums worldwide, in advertising campaigns for major corporations. The director of more than 100 TV commercials and the author of five books, Watson’s unique visual language and single-minded commitment to perfection have made him a world-renowned photographic master. Fine Art Infrared Photography in the Digital Era

with Joseph Meehan Mar 11, 2017: 9:30am - 5:30pm Description During the film era, fine art photographers exploited the unique way (IR) infrared light records landscapes and people. This was, however, a tenuous process and the results were dominated by black & white imagery. The ability of digital cameras to record IR light, however, has revolutionized IR photography making it much easier to capture and process images. This has resulted in a wider adoption by today’s photographers, along with a greater appreciation of this form of expression. In particular, there has been interest beyond typical IR monochrome imagery to include capturing various forms of IR color. In this seminar, Joseph Meehan will first briefly explain the way IR light captures the world and how to identify potential settings. He will then review the various options for producing IR imagery. This includes using IR filters on digital cameras and the options for converting cameras to capture a range of IR light including IR color. Over 50 images will be used as illustrations of all methods and a listing of key information covering the main topics in the presentation will be made available to attendees.
